"Babies wearing contact lenses"

I found this on a random search... and it made me smile.  It is a good public service announcement... but still funny!  It makes me want to show this to every medical student and medical resident I work with.  Anytime they talk about "delaying the eye exam" I tell them my story and how early detection of cataracts... blah blah blah, you all know the rest.  I'm like a broken record, but it is my little way of trying to prevent someone from going through ANY time of horrible uncertainty.  (See  And so it begins...and Red eye reflex).  Next time I'll just send them to this!

Babies Wearing Contact Lenses

Hope makes someone else out there smile!

  2. I love it! I got a chuckle since it was so dated...but I wish they had PSA's like that now. I'm always telling people to take their infants to the eye doc!

  4. Hi, I came across your blog when searching for eye patches for kids. I think I went to bed past midnight last night reading your blogs. :) I couldn't believe how much we had in common. I myself am a mother to four children. three boys and one girl. My youngest Daniel has congenital cataract as well. He is 7 weeks old now and had his surgery when he was three weeks old. Like you, the doctor came inside the room my husband and I were in to tell us how the surgery had gone and then there was a but... he has PFVS (Persistent fetal vasculature syndrome). Well so far it's been quite a journey. He got his bifocal glasses this week and he doesn't like them much. I've been patching his eye for about four hours a day if not more... and in August he will be fitted with contacts which I am so terrified about. I know it won't be easy... and after reading what's happened to you, I'm afraid of losing them. :) Over all I've learned to come to grips with everything and I know that no matter what happens he will always be able lead a normal life. Being at the hospital the day of the surgery and being in the NICU (because he had general anesthesia and because he was only three weeks old the time of the surgery they wanted to monitor him overnight) and seeing all these defenseless little babies hooked up to monitors put everything into perspective. It could be so much worse and I'm just thankful to God for it. I'm happy to have found another mom in the same boat as me. :)

    1. Hi Gloria! Glad you found my blog! I'd also suggest taking a look at some of the other blogs I follow... not many people are as crazy as us to have 4 kids, but you will find a whole lot of support and wonderful blog entries! I'm not sure I could do this journey without these iMoms!

    2. Hi there, I'm a new mom with a son who was diagnosed with a cataract in his left eye. We recently had it removed and are now patching daily with his contact in. I'd love to hear from some of you to hear how things are going with your kids. Sadly there isn't much of a community for this out there. My email is Kellian.miller@gmail.com

  7. circle lenses Wow, cool post. I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real hard work to make a great article... but I put things off too much and never seem to get started. Thanks though.
